Lauren Cooper is a portrait and fashion photographer based in Los Angeles. She spent several years living and working in Paris, where she attended an artist residency at Parsons, assisted on shoots at Door Studios and Studio Rouchon, shot backstage during fashion week for Under the Influence Magazine, and produced a short film directed by Justin Wu called "Le Devoir" starring Willy Cartier, Noemie Merlant, and Nicholas Berthery. The film screened at the Rhode Island International Film Festival in 2014.
Lauren began taking pictures on black and white film as a teenager during a high school class and developing in a darkroom. For her, photography is a surreal escape, an exploration of a real or imagined identity found in her subjects. She tries to imbue her images with a cinematic, dreamlike quality, and is interested in varied depictions of femininity in art. Shooting fashion allows her to construct different realities in collaboration with other artists, finding inspiration from Richard Avedon, Cindy Sherman, and Louise Bourgeois. Her work has been featured by The Fashionisto, Under the Influence, The Ones to Watch, Papercut, Ladygunn, Milk X Magazine, Kit Magazine, and her clients include STNTN, Juicy Couture, and ELLE Magazine.
